"I've Got Nothing"

I started to blog on Sunday and Monday and just got busy and forgot. So Happy Wednesday!

Last night I went to the kids house for dinner. There was no "Doug Loves Movies" show at UCB he is on the road. Tonight Debbie and I are getting together for dinner at Barragan's Mexican Restaurant which is just around the corner from me. Since I don't work Friday's anymore we see less of each other. She works the graveyard shift on the weekends. I was so excited a year ago when she transferred over to my Hospital after working at our Sister Hospital for over 9 years. Our graveyard person on the weekends left so Debbie decided to take that shift and it was so nice to see her every Midnight on Friday! So now I just see her Saturday night when she comes in at Midnight and if I am working the 8-4:30 shift I see her Sunday mornings. So we will try to catch up over dinner.


Tomorrow night we have a show at the UCB hosted by Sarah Silverman and surprise comedians that will go up on stage with NOTHING. We will watch them suffer as they test out new material! The show is called "I've Got Nothing" it sounds like a fun show. It isn't until 9:30 so we will have dinner at Birds Cafe before they show.

Yay it is Friday!! I work this weekend but I am off tonight! I will be getting together with the kids at Don Cuco's Mexican Restaurant for dinner tonight! Our new Friday thing!

On Tuesday at our weekly "Doug Loves Movies" we had a great surprise guest Steven Yeun of "Walking Dead" was a guest, it was a fun show. Being such a Walking Dead fan I was all giddy sitting right in front of Steven Yeun aka "Glen"  Have a great weekend all!! See you on Monday!!!

Getting Use to it!

I had a great weekend beginning with dinner with the kids and 12 of their friends at Don Cuco's Mexican Restaurant in Burbank on Friday. Back in the day when I only worked one job we use to meet at Rusty's Hacienda in North Hollywood every Friday night. So we are thinking since I am off on Friday's now we can make this a regular weekly thing! I have been on a shrimp kick lately because they are low in calories and I am very good at only eating 9 chips with salsa! I am getting so use to working less!! Less money but more of a life!! Just by having Friday's off and not picking up any other evening hours which I have been doing for the last 10 years there.

 Sunday we had our monthly show at UCB Shut Up! I Hate You! Four incredibly opinionated comedians join hosts Anthony King & Kate Spencer for a brutal and hilarious round table discussion about all the things they hate in politics and pop culture. It's like watching The McLaughlin Group, The View and a knife fight all at the same time. Their guests were John Gemberling (Fat Guy Stuck In Internet, The Heart She Holler),Tara Copeland (The Other Guys, The Campaign),Gil Ozeri (Writer, Brooklyn 99, Happy Endings) & Jason Mantzoukas (The League, The Dictator) it was a fun show. We were "comedy light" last week this week "comedy heavy" almost everynight we have something to go to. Tonight the next installment of Doug Benson’s Movie Interruption, where Doug and his friends (who, in the past, have included everyone from Brian Posehn to Sarah Silverman, Ed Helms, Jon Hamm and Zach Galifianakis) chill on the front row couches, mics in hand, and say whatever hilarious thing pops into their heads while a movie of their choosing unfolds on the screen. It’s time for Doug & Co. to take on the most glistening, gleaming period piece of the season — The Great Gatsby. We saw this movie and really liked it but I can see where they are going to get some humor out of it for sure!

Tomorrow night Doug is back at the UCB for his weekly live podcast "Doug Loves Movies" I know one of the guests since he won the "Leonard Maltin game" 2 weeks ago Director Paul Feig if you think you have never heard of him I know you know his movies and TV shows for sure. He most recently directed "The Heat" with Sandra Bullock & Melissa McCarthy so so FUNNY!! He is known for "Bad Teachers", "Bridesmaids" on TV "The Office", "Nurse Jackie", "Parks & Recreation", "Weeds", "Mad Men" and many more. A little trivia about him in 1985 he won $29,000 on "The (New) $25,000 Pyramid" (1973) game show (renamed at that time as "The $25,000 Pyaramid") and used the money to finance a run at stand-up comedy.

We will join comedienne Natasha Leggero for a classy evening of comedy that stretches the definition of classy well past its breaking point. She is a very funny lady! This will be a fun show!

Comedy Light!

I have a comedy light week. Tomorrow there will be no "Doug Loves Movies" at the UCB Theater he is out of town doing shows. So Thursday will be the only evening we have a show to go to at the UCB. Next week is comedy heavy. No Jane Fonda did not show up for the Improv show on Saturday night. I heard she is still pretty nervous but vows she will do it in a few months. So the 2 guests were a pleasant surprise for me. Max Greenfield from the TV show "New Girl" and he use to be on the TV show "Veronica Mars" and the second guest was Corey Stoll who I remember from the short lived show "Law & Order Los Angeles and his great portrayal of Ernest Hemingway in Woody Allen's 2011 film Midnight in Paris. He has a great body and gorgeous blue eyes! Both guests have never done long form improv in their lives and they did very well after they felt comfortable. Ben Schwartz was on Jay Leno last week promoting a new animated movie his voice is in called "Turbo" and he mentioned his show at the UCB and invited Jay Leno to be a guest so we will see if he is Jay shows up as a guest one of these days. But the down side of him talking about the show is more people are finding out about it. The last couple months tickets have sold out in just minutes. I have been very lucky for getting texts from friends when they go on sale. Last month I just kept the UCB calendar open and kept refreshing until I saw SNOWPANTS appear before my eyes I got 4 tickets next time I am getting 6 tickets hopefully? The theater is small so there aren't a lot of tickets to be had and this show is super popular now!

Last night we went to see "White House Down" with Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx as the president. I loved the movie! Lots of action!! We first met for dinner at Don Cuco's Mexican Restaurant. I can eat Mexican anytime.

Well I know I told you all I was not working Friday's anymore because we are not allowed to work more than 20 hours a week as a part time person at the Hospital so my normal schedule is going to be just Saturday and Sunday but since I took last weekend off and I am off tomorrow I am working tonight. So it is a long back to back jobs day for me! Tomorrow I am off because of a show we go to once a month at the UCB Theater I usually trade hours with a co worker but she is working Debbie's graveyard shift so I got Sam who works graveyard during the week to pick up my shift tomorrow. It is rumored Jane Fonda will be the special guest improver tomorrow night. She was sitting next to friends of ours in the audience a week ago watching a improv show so she will feel comfortable doing one she stated. Fingers crossed she will be there!

Sunday I am only working 8-2:30 we have a special afternoon Movie Interruption,  the next installment of Doug Benson’s Movie Interruption, where Doug and his friends (who, in the past, have included everyone from Jon Hamm to Sarah Silverman, Ben Schwartz, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis) chill on the front row couches, mics in hand, and say whatever hilarious thing pops into their heads while a movie of their choosing unfolds on the screen. After June’s Last Crusade, it’s onto another Spielberg-ian jaunt: Hook. Viva Rufio!

Then after this we will grab a quick bite at Canter's Deli and head to the UCB theater for another improv show called Hot Sauce Something Fresh. Which cats members are Ben Schwartz (House of Lies), Adam Pally (Happy Endings) & Gil Ozeri (Happy Endings) A comedy packed weekend. Have a great one ans see you Monday!

Home Sweet Home

I had a fabulous 5 day weekend! Catalina was great! Sunny warm and clear skies the 2 days we were there. I wanted to parasail but they said it was too windy. I am sure in another country it would be no problem. So we rented a 6 seater golf cart for 3 hours and checked out the island. The kids zip lined, not something I was interested in doing but they had lots fun. We went on a Ghost Tour in the evening starting at the Casino. Only one murder there in the last 30 years but they claim there are a lot of ghosts if you believe in that kind of thing? Our rooms were wonderful and the restaurants were fabulous. It was hard coming back but I do miss my kitties and home when I am gone. Here are a few pictures I took with my iPhone.

Catalina Island Here we Come!

We are heading out this morning for a few days. The family and the 2 Grandma's. We are planning on parasailing, shopping, eating and just relaxing on the beach! We are staying at the very cozy Catalina Island Inn. I looked up what the weather will be like there and today it will be 73 and 67 overnight and Monday it will heat up to 81.

The second center of population is the unincorporated village of Two Harbors at the island's isthmus. Development occurs also at the smaller settlements of Rancho Escondido and Middle Ranch. 5 Day Weekend!

On Monday we got a wonderful surprise when out company decided to give us the day after July 4th off. That means starting tonight at 5:00 PM I am on a 5 day weekend! I took Sat & Sun off at the Hospital and Monday a vacation day since we will be in Catalina until Monday late afternoon. I am so excited to get the extra day off with pay of course with the Holiday. A great Birthday present to me! My friend is making me my special cake that is going to be movie themed. I will add the picture of it on here when she texts it to me. Plans tonight for my B'Day going to "The Ramp" in Burbank it is a steakhouse and seafood place. The owner of it use to be the mayor of Burbank for many years. The name is because it is right off the Hollywood Way off ramp off the 5 aka Golden State freeway. This place is a bar and a restaurant. When Debbie and I were younger we tied a few on at this local place. From the way it looks you would never know in a million years how good the food is and it is pricey also. Those do seem to be the best places. It is going to be family a just a few friends. Tomorrow the kids are having a 4th of July BBQ they are going to BBQ ribs. I am going to bring my Mom's potato salad. We can see the fireworks from their house since the Starlight Bowl in Burbank has a fireworks show every year. This will be just their 2nd year back in Burbank. They lived in Granada Hills for just under a year while Paul was building their house. Have a safe fun July 4th Holiday.

The Heat is On....

What a great weekend I had! Hot but great anyway! We broke records in some areas with triple digits. Friday night was our favorite show Ronna & Beverly and it was so much fun as you can see from the pictures below. Ben Schwartz is a great improver so he was at home with them Mark Feuerstein (Royal Pains) was a little more nervous but he did great. At the beginning and end of the show the girls told the audience to go see "The Heat" with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy which we found a little odd so we looked up "The Heat" on IMDB and found out they were in the movie. Jessica Chaffin AKA Ronna and Jamie Denbo AKA Beverly. So it was a must see for us! We went to see it on Sunday after I got off work early at 5:00 and loved it!!! Afterwards we had dinner at Don Cuco's Mexican restaurant and I rushed home to see  Dexter's season premier and final season we are in for some big surprises I am sure. It is an excellent show and I will miss it when it is all over.

I am excited for the week ahead I have my Birthday dinner on Wednesday at The Ramp in Burbank just a few friends and family. And July 4th I am off and the kids are having a BBQ. Plus I have a 3 day weekend off both jobs and we are going to Catalina Island for 2 days.
